Lumenhaus Published in A + U Magazine
The Virginia Tech LumenHAUS has been published by the Tokyo-based Japanese architecture journal A+U (Architecture + Urbanism) in its April 2012 edition. A+U is one of the world’s most prestigious architecture magazines. It is devoted to showcasing important built work from around the world.
The LumenHAUS has been located in multiple venues: the National Mall and the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, Times Square in New York City, the site of the Solar Decathlon Europe in Madrid, Spain, Millennium Park in Chicago, the grounds of the Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois, and on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Initially designed as Virginia Tech’s entry for the U.S. Solar Decathlon held in 2009, the LumenHAUS later placed first in the Solar Decathlon Europe competition in June of 2010.
The LumenHAUS was conceived, designed, and built by a team of students under the direction of primary faculty advisors Prof. Joe Wheeler, Prof. Robert Dunay, Co-Directors, Virginia Tech Center for Design Research, Prof. Robert Schubert, Assoc. Dean for Research, and David “Chip” Clark, Visiting Instructor, all from the School of Architecture + Design.
