Berlin Studio: 2010-11 option for 3rd-year Architecture students
The Berlin Studio will be offered by the School of Architecture + Design as an option for 3rd-year architecture students for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Berlin Studio integrates academic education, professional practice and cultural exchange. As a year-long research studio with a one semester abroad component in Berlin, the studio promotes a collaborative design process which incorporates multiple points-of-view from a variety of academic discourses. The direct integration of foreign practices in the studio will expose students to new professional modes of operation and contemporary building methods in Europe and the U.S. Due to its position as a thriving metropolis and epicenter for emerging subcultures, Berlin offers unprecedented opportunities to explore past, present and future tendencies in architecture and design.
The studio is open to upcoming 3rd year architecture students at Virginia Tech. Prerequisites include: successful completion of the 2nd year program, a laptop, basic computer skills, and a valid passport. An information meeting regarding the program will be held on March 1, 2010 at 12:00 noon in Room 300, Cowgill Hall. Students who wish to participate in the Berlin Studio for the 2010-2011 academic year should submit an initial application by March 23, 2010. There are 20 available spaces (maximum) in the studio.
