Extreme Makeover

Virginia Tech Architecture and Design students and faculty were part of a team enlisted to design and build a new home in conjunction with the popular ABC television program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” In addition to collaborating with Building Specialists, Inc. on the design of the main house, the Virginia Tech Architecture and Design Team built a meditation room on the site.

Joe Wheeler, assistant professor of architecture in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, is team leader overseeing Virginia Tech’s participation in the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” house under construction at 400 Ardmore Street. This photo, taken Thursday, Dec. 8, shows work continuing on the “meditation room”—a special facility being constructed for the homeowner, Carol Crawford-Smith, a professional ballerina with multiple sclerosis and founder of the Center of Dance in Blacksburg.
