Hunter Pittman and four students interviewed for WDBJ-TV Roanoke
Hunter Pittman, professor of architecture, and four fifth-year architecture students had two minutes of fame Friday, December 10.
CBS Channel 7 in Roanoke video-taped Pittman and his students Amarit Singh, Jennifer Nickerson, Zack Downey and professor Michael O’Brien’s student Sean Wheeler about their 2004 Cradle-to-Cradle competition entries. The interviews were broadcast on the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news.
Approximately 1000 entrants are competing in the Roanoke Cradle-to-Cradle competition for green, sustainable, environmentally friendly housing. Designs are inspired by the concepts found in “Cradle to Cradle—Remaking the Way We Make Things” by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, with a plan to give to the environment, rather than take from it.
Judging is in January, 2005, followed by an exhibition of winners at The Art Museum of Western Virginia. Construction is expected to begin May 2005.
