Inside Architecture and Design
Monday · 25 June 2007
Each summer, rising 9th through 12th grade students are eligible to participate in this hands-on program to discover what it might be like to study architecture and design, and in the process, learn more about university life. The program has grown from four students in 1998, to 36 students in 2003.
Students from Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina have participated. Architecture and design professors and graduate assistants lead the group on tours of architectural features on campus, and students learn about architecture and design through working on individual and team projects in a studio setting. At the end of the week, participants present their projects in front of their peers and parents in the Cowgill Hall exhibition area. Industrial Design Professor Robert Dunay says the program has been a springboard for several students who are currently enrolled in Virginia Tech’s Architecture and Design programs.
